Well,
I just watched the videos dealing with Thing 2. I felt many emotions while doing this. Below is a list. I will not lie-my initial reaction was kind of negative.
inadequate
frustrated
bound by tests
emotionally manipulated (all those sad, bored children)
resigned
overwhelmed
interested
excited
hopeful
scared
That gives you some idea of how I feel. By the way, I don't know what a wiki is. Should I feel bad about that?
Quite honestly, I'm not sure where we will find the time. I realize it's a matter of reorganizing the way we do things but until I have done this whole course and mulled over some ideas I can't tell you how I will use this. I feel certain, however, that it is inescapable, and I'm sure I'll be good with it when I get a real feeling for how I can utilize it.

I would consider frustration and fear to be fairly reasonable reactions to the concept of Web 2.0, especially from an educator's perspective. When we consider the limits placed on us by time, resources, curriculum, and the thousands of other factors teacher juggle on a daily basis, preparing our students for the world in these videos is just plain overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI do think, though, that just the fact that we're aware of these developments and that we're discussing them is encouraging. And really, that's the purpose of this course--to open up discussion and expose you to possibilities.
Oh, and don't worry--wikis are Thing 5!
Great response! Thing 2 complete!
