I am participating in "8 Things" partly because I could fulfill my comp day requirement while vacationing and partly because I'm trying to be braver about technology. I was surprised at how easy it was to get going. Although my dog, Sam, will be posting some comments, I realize this is mainly for communication purposes during this course. It was so easy to add a picture. I'm not sure exactly how I will choose to use this nifty tool but I am open to suggestions. Third graders love reading about themselves and seeing pictures of themselves. Anyway, I hope this is what you were looking for, and Sam will be posting again soon. I'm sure his reflections will be more interesting than mine.

Looks like you're off to a great start! I'm glad you found the first step easy. I love the idea of Sam keeping a blog, and I bet your students would get a kick out of it, too!
ReplyDeleteAs far as ideas for how to use a blog for your 3rd graders, have you looked at the examples on the "Blogs for Review" page? (http://sisd8things.blogspot.com/2010/04/blogs-for-review.html) Take a look at some of these and let us know what you thought of them. What did you find interesting? Which blogs seemed to "work" well, and which didn't seem well-suited to their purpose or audience?
Also, I'd like to hear more about how you think something like a blog could engage students or get them to think in a different way.
You're off to a great start--let me hear more! :)
I'm thinking it would be a great tool for students to give book reviews about literature we read.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Keep the insights coming--Thing 1 complete!
